Kenya won two gold,five silver and eight bronze medals at the just concluded East and Central Africa judo championships in Moshi Tanzania.The two gold medals came from a female exponents Cecilia Wangeci and Diana Kana.The duo waded through the contest to defeat their rivals from other East and Central African countries who took part in the championships.
Wangeci who had shown great intent to lift the hotly contested women's 78kgs, had no match as she floored her opponents at will in the category.After being declared the winner she said,"At first I was doubtful of the caliber of opposition to expect.However, I gained confidence after the first match.I realized I was better off tan my opponents.The belief carried me to win the gold."
Kana was outstanding in the women's 70kg category.She said better preparations and diet played a role in her winning."I was very dedicated in training .My advice for the upcoming players is train hard to win easy."Kana now has her eyes on the forthcoming All Africa Games in Congo and also in the global championships
Esther Akinyi won silver in the women's over 78 category,Irene Akinyi won bronze in the women's under 48 kgs as did Esther Ikungu in the women's under 70 kgs.Four men managed to bag silver for the country.They are;Are Amos Aori( U-81 kgs), Elvis Nato(U-90 kgs),Patrick Wakaba(U-100 kgs) and George Kimani(over 100 kgs)Those who bagged bronze were;Isaac Kinyanjui, Tobias Yungu and Samson Wambi.
The 14 medals saw the country maintain a second position,which they clinched in last year edition
That is a lot of riches flowing into our country,we are ever proud of our champions.
