GOOD PROGRESS FOR ‘FIELD MARSHALLS’

The Moi university ‘Field Marshalls’ took part in the Kisii University open tournament earlier on in the semester in a two day tournament which drew 16 football teams from across the country. The Field Marshalls were drawn in group C alongside U.S.I.U and Cardinal Otunga High School.
Moi University beat U.S.I.U 1-0 in a closely contested first group match. The ‘Field Marshalls’ took an early lead in the 2nd minute after they were awarded a free-kick. Ologi stepped up to take a superb free-kick that beat the wall and the goalkeeper to hit the back of the net. In the second match, the marshalls closely edged out Cardinal Otunga 1-0 as they took the lead in the 35th minute courtesy of a goal by Pius. After a couple of good passes, he received the ball inside the box and took a brilliant shot that sailed past the keeper.

The two victories earned the Marshalls top spot in group C and also enabled them to sail to the quarter finals. In the quarter finals they were pitted against Town Rangers. They succumbed to defeat to defeat narrowly being edged out 8-7 on penalties after both teams were still level after extra time.

The tournament marked an improvement for the ‘Field Marshalls’ in comparison to the previous tournament they participated in where they went out at the Group stage. Things can only get better. March on ‘Field Marshalls.’
